About Us
Watershed Management Division was established in August 2000 to address the flood risk management, water
quality, water conservation, open space, and recreational needs of the Los Angeles County Flood Control
District. Rather than focus on single-objective solutions for these Flood Control District priorities,
the Division uses an integrated, multipurpose approach that is consistent with watershed management principles.
These principles are carried out through a framework of collaboration and partnerships,
combined with sound science and local knowledge, as a foundation for well-planned actions. Outcomes are
monitored so that multi-purpose projects may be adapted over time to achieve improved results.
Before
After
Tujunga Wash Greenway and River Restoration Project With its new pathways and meandering
streambed, this joint project between the Los Angeles County Flood Control District and Santa Monica Mountains
Conservancy brought plant and animal habitat, water quality enhancement, groundwater replenishment, and passive
recreation to a one mile reach of the Tujunga Wash.
