Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
Is permission needed to fly a drone by dams owned by LA County Public Works? If yes, what is the procedure?

Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for contacting LA County Public Works.

For all activities that occur at our dams, we require a Temporary Use and Access Permit. This would apply to situations such as the use of a drone where the activity may not physically be on Los Angeles County Flood Control District right-of-way but is entering the air-space. Issuing a Permit allows us to ensure the proposed activity has a legitimate purpose and does not interfere with dam operations, conflict with other on-going work, or create a security or safety risk that impacts the dams.

Please contact our Permits Section at (626) 458-3129 for any question you may have regarding the permit process. Additionally, below is a link to our webpage outlining the Temporary Use and Access Flood Permit process.
