Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
Hi,
I have been asked to submit a Geologic/Geotechnical Engineering Report for a house in Los Angeles County. It is for a patio, retaining wall, and yard wall for a single lot existing house. A preliminary design had been created (but not submitted). The family then had the geologic/geotechnic report done to make sure their design would work and that design is currently being re~worked. They are hoping to submit this soils report before_the project itself is submitted (which will be asap, hopefully) in order to expidite the process. Is this possible? They do plan to pay any expidition fees required. I will continue to look into this but help from you guys would be great, as I have not worked with LA County before so I do not know the official proceedures. Thank you..
Sincerely,
Courtney

Answer:
Courtney,
As we discussed in our phone conversation, the report alone cannot be submitted to Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Division (Geology and Soils) for review. The report and the plans must be submitted through the local County Building and Safety office to be assigned a Plan Check Number. They will issue an Agency Referral Sheet which will have information on how to electronically submit the plans and report for review.
