Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
Hello, we are using LA County`s HydroCalc and question is about the soil type. Is the soil type shown on the GIS map provided by LA County for undeveloped or developed land? If the soil type is undeveloped, where can we find the soil type factor for a developed land?

Answer:
Received this response from our Land Development Division, Storm Drain/Hydrology Section. In order to run HydroCalc, the applicant should be referencing the Soil Type in our GIS system. The imperviousness percentage the applicant inputs into the HydroCalc program will account for developed versus undeveloped, so they don’t need a separate soil type for that when running their analysis. If you have any further questions regarding HydroCalc, you may contact Mr. Vilong Truong via email at vitruong@dpw.lacounty.gov or at 626-458-4921.
