Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Question:
My landlord has been notified of several issues with the house over the past 3 years that we have been living there and has failed to take adequate action to remedy the situation... When a fire alarm system went off, he shut it off by removing power to it and not replacing the system... Notified him over a year ago during the atmospheric rivers that the roof was leaking and he has yet to fix it. We informed him over a month ago that the paint was bubbling in the downstairs bedroom because it was an exterior wall and he has not had a painter come over to fix it. He did not and has not tested the walls or the leaking roof for mold or mildew not has he provided any maintenance of the grounds of the property all while raising the rent. Is this legal/are there any remedies to force him into making the property updates/ can we also accrue back rent because of his failure to act?
